A series bright and vibrating with colour, yet created in the darkness.

After photographing Mandy for so many years, their separation left Luke completely lost creatively. For a time, he couldn’t imagine photographing another woman again, and wasn’t sure where his photography would go next. Eventually, the itch to create returned. Without a model, he found himself asking what he could possibly photograph. Then, one night, the answer came to him in a dream: he could adorn a morph suit and photograph himself. So that’s exactly what he did.

Created between the UK and France, El Luca became a series of 41 artworks — vibrant, strange and full of colour. More than simply a new body of work, it gave Luke a way to continue creating when he felt creatively lost and, more importantly, to begin finding himself again. El Luca wasn’t the resurrection, but it was the beginning of the journey towards it — a vibrant and transformative chapter that helped lead him back to the artist he was becoming.
